After grounding out my alternator lead battery wire, I had to replace the amp fuse that connects to the alternator. After replacing the fuse the car started up fine but upon driving home and shutting off the vehicle and trying to restart it I found that it didn't crank anymore.

I open the hood to find my amp fuse that I had just bought has blown once again. This is obviously a failure in my rewiring the battery lead on the alternator, but for the life of me I can't figure out where I went wrong. My contacts don't ground and I cleaned all surfaces, yet I still blow a fuse every time.

Can somebody please help? Due to the small amount of threaded post I had left, I tried to sit the wire directly onto and through the post the alternator. For some reason that setup was sending too much current? Like how the battery wires sit on a terminal and not the actual battery posts, and temporarily strapped the wire to the nut with an elastic band to keep it in contact with the makeshift terminal. I have a Mitsubishi lancer, what kept occurring was a drainage in my battery.

That was the problem for me. It was also showing a battery and brake light - another indication why I thought it was my alternator, but it was that fuse -- don't be fooled!! Sign up to join this community. The best answers are voted up and rise to the top. Home Questions Tags Users Unanswered.

I'm having trouble visualizing the transition from your previous question mechanics. Did you repair the alternator post and restore the correct connections Is this a different question? What is the current state of this vehicle?

Have the alternator tested. JasonC this is actually a branch off of my old question. After realizing the mistake I had made I found that I had blown my alternator fuse.

Thinking that all I had to do was reconnect the wire to the Post was a mistake that led to this question. After I had replaced the fuse the first time and reconnected the wire to the Post the broken 1.

Your Acura RSX alternator going bad is a common problem, considering the location of the alternator itself. When this happens, you can use this guide to easily and quickly replace the alternator in your K series.

As your K20 engine is running, the Acura RSX alternator generates the proper amperage to charge your car battery. As the accessory belt rotates the inner rotor, a charge is created and your RSX battery is charged.

When the alternator fails on you, your RSX battery will be dead when you turn off the car. This can also cause issues with your voltage as your car is running. Once you have the power and ground wires disconnected, you can begin replacing your RSX alternator.

Open your hood and remove the 10mm bolt. Now you can lift up on the fluid tank and push it to the side. Now with the power steering tank out of the way, you can access the RSX steering pump. Before you begin removing it however, you need to undo the 10mm bolt that holds the throttle cable in place.

Before doing that however, stick the open ended 14mm wrench into your RSX accessory belt tensioner. Pull forwards towards the front of the Acura RSX. You should get enough slack to pull off the accessory belt from the power steering pump. You can now undo the 14mm bolts that run through the power steering pump itself. Now that the power steering pump has been disconnected, you can gently set it to the side. Begin by removing your front Acura RSX bumper.

Loosen both sides, and then the condenser should be able to pull away from your radiator just a tad. Now undo the 10mm bolts that hold the RSX radiator in place. These bolts through through the RSX radiator stay, and begin with one side at a time.

Make sure to loosen the other side as well. Now you can pull away on the radiator. You should not need to undo the upper radiator hose. Now begin removing the 10mm bolts that secure your RSX radiator support. Start with the left side first. Before removing your RSX radiator support, push in these plastic tabs to get your wiring harness freed.

Once you have enough clearance, you can carefully reach through and begin removing the 14mm bolts on the bottom of the Acura RSX alternator. There are two bolts under the unit, so once you have those removed, you can take off the top bolt. Now you should be able to carefully remove your old alternator. Make sure to support it before you remove the top most 14mm bolt. This is an extremely long bolt so make sure to use caution when screwing it into your new assembly.

Prepare your new alternator and start by inserting into the front of your RSX engine bay. Now reconnect the alternator wiring harness and the power wire. Tighten down the 10mm nut to the power wire on the Acura RSX alternator. Now reconnect the alternator using the long 14mm top bolt first.

Tighten it just snugly so that the alternator can still move a tad. Now prepare your new RSX accessory belt by removing your old unit.Alternator to battery fusible link location needed.

I need to know precisely where to find the fusible link between the alternator and the battery, since both lines to the alternator connections run in one wrapped bundle. Suspect that fusible link may be the problem as to why not only the alternator light is on, but I had weird glitches in instrument panel loss of tachometer and speedometer, ABS light coming on.

In process of changing the PCM which I suspect may have received damage to the voltage regulator chip inside. Really getting tired of dismantling the top of my engine compartment if you know my meaning. And I need my one and only transportation! Added Information: New alternator and new battery installed prior to symptoms described. Do you. The link is in the positive cable right near the battery terminal. Check the ASD relay as well. Here is the wiring diagrams for the alternator so you can see how the system works with a guide to test the wiring as well.

This is not letting me add a photo as it should. So I cannot show you. No fusible links. I am not a pro mechanic, but I do know what a fusible link is and where they should be placed and placing this one at the target area battery is not the proper place.Due to shipper and supplier delays, your order may take longer to arrive. When that happens, and your alternator output is unable to fully meet the needs of your electrical systemyou can experience anything from dim headlights to severe drivability problems. Left alone, this problem will eventually lead to the alternator burning out altogether. While the output rating of an alternator gives you an idea of what it's designed to put out, the only way to see what an alternator is actually capable of is to test it.

To that end, you can measure the actual output of an alternator under a simulated load, which allows you to get an idea of what it is capable of putting out in real-world conditions. The first is the alternator output rating, which is the amount of current that a unit is capable of producing at a specific rotational speed. The other thing that alternator output can refer to is the amount of current that a unit actually produces at any given time, which is a function of the physical capabilities of the alternator, the rotational speed of the input shaft, and the momentary demands of the electrical system.

In this case, this alternator is capable of putting out A 6, RPM. The last number is In essence, while maximum alternator output is dependent on the rotational speed of the input shaft, the actual output is load-dependent. That basically means that an alternator will never generate more current than is called for by the momentary demands of the electrical system.

What that means, in the real world, is that while an underpowered alternator can cause problems by not meeting the needs of your electrical system, a substantially overpowered alternator represents a lot of wasted potential. In most cases, alternators are replaced due to normal wear and tear.

Internal components simply wear out, so the best case of action is to replace it with a new or rebuilt unit that conforms to the same output ratings.

There are cases where it is more economical to rebuild an alternator instead of buying a new or rebuilt unit, but that is a different discussion. There are also cases where an alternator may burn out due to excessive demands over a prolonged period of time. This usually doesn't apply to vehicles that have factory car audio systems and no other additional equipment, but it can quickly come into play as you pile on more and more power-hungry equipment. In cases where an alternator seems to burn out faster than expected, and the vehicle has a powerful aftermarket amplifieror other similar equipment, then a replacement with a higher output rating may fix the problem.
